Geothermal Energy - Hellisheiði Power Plant, Iceland

By skarpi - www.skarpi.is

An intelligent use of the Earth’s heat. The geothermal resources in Iceland are closely associated with the country’s volcanism, with the high temperature (over 200 °C) geothermal fields located within the active volcanic zone running from Southwest to Northeast of Iceland.

The image is taken on Hellisheidi in the Hengill peninsula on a bright night in March 2010. Steam/Gas blowing from the top of borehole #23, in the background (spotted with note) the active volcano on Fimmvörðuháls erupting.
